The themes of the paintings during Romanesque period are almost exclusively religious, and are at the service of architecture. 

Classical Greek used several techniques and styles in vases.

Byzatine artists painted the walls and ceilings in the belief that the one who passed away would be able to take all of the images of their life with them. 

Prehistoric period used combinations of minerals, ochers, burnt bone meal, and charcoal mixed into water, blood, animal fats, and tree saps to etch humans, animals and signs

Romantic period paintings were mostly  copied from Hellenistic Greek paintings.
