The story begins on a Tuesday and ends on a Saturday,almost two weeks later.

Alexis joined this club because her guidance counselor had told her she needed to do something to make herself stand out in order to get into her college with a scholarship.

They got down on their hands and knees and formed a line. They slowly crawled across the ground shoulder to shoulder looking for anything that might be evidence.

Her mom is bipolar and is off her meds for most of the story. Her mom's mood swings from demanding to bake cookies at 2 a.m. to running away because she thinks she is being watched, even by the TV.

His mom never talked about his dad, or his medal. Nick knew his dad had died in combat. He had sacrificed himself to save others. He wanted to join the army but all his mom would ever say was, "The army destroyed your father."

Ruby was unique. She has an amazing memory and an eye for details. She notices continuity errors in movies. She loves Locard's principal that says when there is contact between two items, there will always be an exchange. She has a very analytical mind.

Her parents were both dermatologists and did not like her fascination with death. She was 16, a little autistic and had a hard time remembering all the rules like: Don't stare, don't stand too close, don't talk about surgery, don't talk about death.

Her theory was that there was a serial killer and he was organized. He wanted to collect a set, possibly a set of homeless girls, one black, one white, one hispanic, one oriental... She also thought that when he was caught people who knew him would be surprised. Some killers are true sociopaths and are born broken.

On his computer he could check the location of all his girls. Blinking green dots represented the homeless girls in downtown Portland. He had slipped a GPS locator to each girl without them knowing it.

The suspects included a man running his dogs, a bird-watcher who was older and looked sort of like Santa and a homeless guy who had darker skin and dreads, a guy on a mountain bike had been younger and had a little goatee and the guy with the duffel bag who had little eyes and a nose that looked like it had been broken.

Harriman was done listening to the kids. He'd arrested an innocent man because of them.

Raina left home three months ago and wants to go back but is afraid her mom won't let her. It is easier not to call and hope she will say yes. Raina helped Alexis look for her mom and showed her a few places she might be staying.

The man with the dogs had a girl trapped in his house. Nick and Alexis wanted to help. Nick accidentally hit the man in the nose with his head and broke his nose. The police were called and they came and arrested the man. The girl was safe!

The journal had important information like the species name, study specifications, appearance,,habitat, feeding habits, behavior and vocalization.

The hot chocolate tasted not so much like hot chocolate but more like chemicals and salt and artificial sweetener. In truth, it had something added, something intended to make Ruby compliant and weak.

As soon as she saw his shoe print on the ground, she knew he was the killer. She had to get away but she felt heavy and sluggish.

One person was drugged and strangled, he was stabbed and she used the rake handle to protect them both.

The author sent a letter to Roald Dahl when she was in elementary school. He sent her a couple of postcards. She still has one that she got from him.
