A Walk on the Beach
Sandy and her sister Tracy were walking on the beach. They were collecting shells and putting them in a bucket. Sandy added a shiny, white, swirled shell. “This one is my favorite,” she told Tracy.
Tracy reached into the bucket to add another shell. “Ouch!” she yelled. “I think your shell just pinched me!”
Sandy reached into the bucket and picked up the top of the shiny, white shell. She peeked underneath and saw two little pinchers. “It looks like my favorite shell is really a home. What a cute little hermit crab! I’ll name him Pinchers!”
“I think you better put him back,” said Tracy. “He’ll be happier here at the beach than in a tank at our house.”
Sandy gently set the shell back on the sand. The hermit crab came out of the shell and walked toward the water. “Bye, Pinchers,” said Sandy.
