Brown headed Cowbird's are nest parasites, and lay their eggs in the nests of other birds. Unknowingly, the new parents adopts the new egg and raises it. Often, their own offspring will not survive due to competition pressure with the Cowbird chick, which grows to be bigger and grows much faster. Cowbirds don't like dense forests, but can gain access to them more now then just 50 years ago because humans and urbanization has led to habitat fragmentation. As a result, several species of songbirds are now endangered in their native Woodland habitats because of the Brown-headed Cowbird, including the Cerulean Warbler.
