- Q1
Look at your "Dark Beginnings" EXERCISES sheet. Look at exercise 1a. What is the first note? Hint: Remember to look at the key signature and check for any accidentals that would change your mind?
If you do not have a "Dark Beginnings" Exercises sheet, go to the cabinet that is by our "Conduct Yourself Well" bulletin board. On the left hand door is a list that says which instruments are on which shelves. Use that list to NEATLY find the shelf for your instrument and find the music you need.
30s - Q2
Look at exercise 1a. Look at measure 3. You have 1 quarter note that has a > on it. Using your band book, find where it teaches that symbol. What is it's name?

30s - Q9
Look at the last measure of exercise 3a. The first note at a flat on it. We know the note that lives on that line but we've never seen it with a flat - Use your band book to find the name of this note.
30s - Q10
Keep looking at the last measure of Exercise 3a. Flutes and percussion should've learned that the first note is Db. Clarinets learned it is Eb. Saxes learned that it is Bb.
This is kind of like when flutes/perc learned A vs. Ab, clarinets learned B vs Bb, and saxes learned F# vs F - We now know two types of D or E or B!
What is the fingering for your new note?
30s - Q11
Keep looking at the last measure of Exercise 3a. The first note of it was flat. Is the last note flat?
Yes. The flat sign is good for the rest of the measure.
No. There is no flat sign on it.
30s - Q12
In exercise 3a, you learned a new flat note (Db for flutes/perc, Eb for clarinet, Bb for saxophone). Scan through the rest of the page. Which other exercise uses that note?
