He is known for saying “You should not honor men more than truth” and “You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.” He did not believe that democracy was the best kind of government. He believed that reason and philosophy should rule lives and not emotion. He believed that if humans applied reason, they could create a perfect world.

He died at age 33 having conquered more land, ruling more people, and collecting more wealth than anyone else ever had. He is also famous for never losing a battle.

He was arrested for corrupting the youth of Athens because many believed he taught youth to be disrespectful to their elders and turned them away from their gods. He was arrested, found guilty, and forced to drink poison to end his life.

He believed that the main goal in life was to find happiness and said, “Happiness depends on ourselves.” He valued men above women and believed that the rich were more worthy than the poor.
