Instead of asking all 1,000 students (which would be costly and time-consuming), the principal decides to select a sample of 100 students. To ensure fairness, the principal assigns each student a number from 1 to 1,000. Using a random number generator (or drawing lots), the principal selects 100 numbers.
3. A research organization wants to measure voter attitudes toward education policy before a national election. Voters differ by region, age, and gender. If the sample is purely random, some groups (e.g., rural voters or younger voters) may be underrepresented. Divide the population into strata based on regions.
4. A universitywants to measure students’ satisfaction with campus facilities. The registrarhas a list of 10,000 enrolled students, ordered alphabetically. They decide tosurvey 1,000 students. The sampling interval is calculated as:

A random starting point between 1 and 10 is chosen — say7. From there, every 10th student on the list is selected (7th, 17th, 27th,37th, …).
5. A teacher wants to know the average score of her 200 students. She randomly selects 20 students’ test papers to check.
6. A teacher has prepared 60 reading comprehension questions for Grade 8 students. To avoid bias and ensure fair distribution across the pool, the teacher applies every 6th item thereafter.
7. A school wants to know students’ opinions on cafeteria food. They asked 50 students from the entire student body.
8. A company wants to measure employee satisfaction. The employees were grouped based on their department. Respondents were chosen from these department.
9. The city health department wants to estimate how many residents exercise regularly. They divided the population into barangays. They selected the two nearest barangays as participants.
10. A researcher wants to study TV viewing habits of adults in a city. They randomly dialed phone numbers from the city directory.
