Jesus Christ fulfilled Old Testament prophecies, and He is superior to Old Covenant. Superior means more excellent. Christ is superior to prophets, angels, leaders, priests, the practice of daily sacrifice that the priests had to carry out, the Tabernacle, and the Law. Christ is superior forever because His sacrifice is good for all time. He is permanently sitting at God's right hand in heaven, so nothing and no one can surpass His superiority. Jesus is alive in heaven, being the High Priest and the mediator of the New Covenant and praying for believers. A covenant is a promise or agreement between two people or groups. The Old Covenant refers to the promises from God that involved animal sacrifices and obedience from people. The New Covenant refers to the promise of God fulfilled through the sacrifice of Jesus and accepted by people through faith in Him. The Old Covenant was made for Abraham and the Jews and based on law; it depended on obedience and sacrifices. The New Covenant is achieved through Christ for all people; it needed only one sacrifice; and it is based on grace. The New Covenant is superior because it is for all people for all time; it gives salvation by grace through faith; and it changes people on the inside through God's indwelling power.
