BASIC READING SKILLS

aims to locate specific information or main ideas in a very short span of time.

a type of quick reading which aims to get the main idea and to get the overview of the text

aims to get specific information from the given text

involves the identification of the central message of  a reading selection

a reader looks over material and focuses on the formation he/she finds relevant.

involves the understanding of ideas and facts that are directly stated in the printed material

writing down notes on reading or highlighting important sections to help focus and better understand what you read

- involves condensing a lengthy text into a shorter passage

involves restating ideas from the original text

SQR3 METHOD

skim the target text

get a feel of the text

- Annotate the headings 

- develop questions on the types of information you expect from the text

Stop and slow down when he passage is not clear

- Recount the main points of the text

- highlight or underline the important points you read

Evaluate what you have learned to ensure that you are convinced and satisfied with the information.
