Barangay Sta. Lucia is one among the 44 barangays of the Municipality of Gerona, Province of Tarlac. In the years 1913 to 1918 the people were happy and contented for they had a bountiful harvest. The happiness and contentment of the people were suddenly broken when a dreadful sickness, smallpox spread in the community. Barangay Sta. Lucia sought help from the Sanitary Division (Sanidad).
Mr. Ladislao Taberna, the sanitary inspector who was assigned in the place assembled all the people in the barangay plaza and gave them vaccination. It was in 1918 when smallpox was eradicated in the barangay.
