The people engage in the production of food crops. Major food crops being cultivated by the people include guinea corn/ millet, maize, beans, groundnut, rice, wheat, vegetables and pepper. 2. Leather works: This occupation involves the production of leather materials such as shoes, bags, puffs, sandals and belts. The presence of abundant cattle, sheep and other domestic animals makes it possible for the people to engage in the occupation. 3. Weaving and Dyeing: Weaving is a traditional occupation mainly engaged in by the Hausa men and women. Cloth weaving is regarded as the most difficult and the most important part of the cloth industry among Hausa people. Among the areas where the cloth weavers are found in Hausa land are Kano, Sokoto and Kaduna. Dyeing is mainly engaged in by Hausa women. They dye different types of clothes through the use of dye and water. 4. Livestock rearing: This occupation is mainly practised by the Hausa men. Notable among livestock reared include goat, sheep, donkey and poultry. 5. Blacksmithing: This occupation is mainly practised by the Hausa men. It is an occupation that is connected with the development of iron melting. Blacksmiths are found in many towns and villages in Hausa land.
