It was a sunny day in the grassland. The Mighty Lion would hunt for food later in the day. Right now, all it wanted to do was relax. It stretched out and watched the grass. Then it noticed a spider. The spider was climbing on a plant. Then the spider jumped to the next plant and left a string between them. It was making a web. The lion watched for a while. “How clever you are,” it said to the spider. “How did you learn to do that?” The spider said, “My mother showed me how to do this. I learned from her. And I have taught my children how to make webs.” The lion watched a while longer. Then it asked the spider, “But why do you do that when you could just grab your food, the way I do?” “I am just a small animal. I cannot run fast. So I do not eat insects that run. I cannot fly. I eat flies. So with my web I can catch them.” The lion said, “Could you make me a web that could catch an animal for me to eat? Then I would not have to run after them either.” The spider thought about that. At first she thought the lion was joking. But he was not. “I can’t do that,” she said. “My web can catch a fly. But it could not catch a big animal. And you could not live by eating flies.” Just then a fly flew into the spider’s web. She went to get it. She wrapped it up for her children. Then she went back to spinning more of the web. The lion was jealous of the spider. It did not have to work hard for its food. And it would not help him get his food. So it slapped at the spider web and broke it. The spider bit the lion as a result. “Now you will remember me,” said the spider as she hopped off and into the grass. “Think before you are mean to another animal. We are all special. And some of us may be small but very smart.” The lion tried to scratch its back but could not reach the spider bite. It itched for days. The lion remembered the smart spider for a long time.
The Lion was not as smart as the Spider.
We may all be different, but we are each special.
    Friendship will always win.
The Spider was more intelligent than the Lion.

There was once a boy who lived in a village up in the mountains. His family owned many sheep. The boy had a job, and that job was to watch the sheep. If a wolf came near, he needed to call for help. His sheep stayed on a hill near the village where he watched them every day. One day, he thought of a trick he could play on the people who lived in the village. He was bored, so he thought this would be a way to have fun. He ran toward the village crying out loudly for help. He shouted, "Wolf! Wolf! Come and help! The wolves are at my lambs! The wolves are trying to eat them!" There were many villagers in the town. They heard him crying and thought that they had to help. So, the kind villagers left their work and ran to the field to help him. They would try to help him chase away the wolves and protect his lambs. However, when the villagers got there, the boy laughed at them. There was no wolf there. He just wanted to watch them come running! He thought it was funny. Then another day the boy tried the same trick. Once again, the villagers came running to help him out, and once again the boy laughed at them. Then, one day, a wolf really did come and it started chasing the lambs. In great fright, the boy ran for help. "Wolf! Wolf!" he screamed. "There is a wolf! Help! Please! Help! Please!” All the villagers heard him, but this time they did not come. They thought he was pulling another mean trick. They had learned their lesson and did not need to be laughed at again. So, no one paid attention to him and the shepherd-boy lost all his sheep –they all ran away. When people in the village found out what had happened, they were sorry, but they told the boy it was his fault. That is the kind of thing that happens to people who lie. Even when they tell the truth, no one believes them. People are just so used to their lies.
The boy is not telling the truth.
Always speak the truth or people will not believe you.
The wolf was able to get away with a lot.

It is wintertime. The weather is cold, but the ants are doing fine. They have their warm home, and they have a lot of food to eat. They can wait for the warm weather in spring. The reason the ants have a lot of food is because they worked in the summer. So now they have grain to eat. The ants get the grain in summer, because that is when grain grows. They do not eat it right then. They save it because they need to be able to have food in the winter months when plants do not grow. This goes on all summer. The ants work hard every day. They pick up the grain, they carry it to their home. Every ant helps. They play sometimes, but most of the time they work. The grasshoppers live near the ants, and they love summer. They hop and play and they laugh at the ants. They say, “We have fun every day while you work every day. Come and play. You can get grain later.” But the ants say, “No, we have to work.” Soon it is winter, and the grasshoppers are cold. They are hungry, too. They do not have food to eat. Since they played all summer, they did not save food for winter. One day, a grasshopper came to see the ants and he was very hungry. “Please, ants, could you help me a little bit? I am just so hungry!” said the grasshopper. The ants said, “We are sorry you have no food. We have a lot because we worked hard. You have none because you played. But, we will give you some food because we are good, kind neighbors. We want you to live, so we will help you now. But learn from us. Playing is a lot of fun. But you need to work to live.” The grasshopper thanked the ants. The grasshopper had learned a lesson.
The ants are better than the grasshoppers.
    The grasshoppers were not smart.
    Believe in yourself.
It is important to be a hard worker, even when there are distractions.
