Description: Students write on paper, chart paper, or small whiteboards. They write words that are connected by feature, word pattern, or word part. They make new words by changing letters at the beginning, middle, or end or make new words by adding letters and/or longer word parts. Teachers can model by writing to demonstrate a principle and the students either copy or write their own example.
