There are two main types of eclipses that involve the Moon, the Sun, and Earth. A lunar eclipse occurs when Earth blocks the light from the Sun and the Moon is in Earth’s shadow. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon blocks the light from the Sun and Earth is in the Moon’s shadow.
