Across the burning Sudan sun,
Where earth is cracked and rivers run
Like fading dreams beneath the sky,
Two children walk. They do not cry.
Salva runs from smoke and fear,
Gunshots ringing in his ear.
Village gone, his family lost,
Innocence at bitter cost.
Step by step through dust and heat,
Blistered hands and blistered feet.
Lions roar and danger waits,
Hope feels small against such fates.
Nya walks where the land is dry,
Plastic container at her side.
Morning light and evening glow
Mark the miles she has to go.
Day by day the same long track,
Water heavy on her back.
School can wait—there’s work to do.
Survival comes before dreams do.
Years apart, their journeys flow
Like hidden streams beneath the woe.
One brings water from the ground,
One brings hope where none was found.
A well springs up. The children cheer.
Clean water sings, bright and clear.
Two long walks, one shining thread—
Courage walking where they’re led.
For in each step across the land
Is strength we try to understand:
When hope seems small and paths are rough,
The human heart is strong enough.
