1. Napoleon directly ruled France and part of Italy. Color France blue; color a small part of Italy blue (the area around the line from the word "Italy").
2. Members of Napoleon's family ruled Spain and the rest of Italy. Color these areas in green.
3. Find the unlabeled area just to the east (right) of France. Napoleon ruled these dependent states. Color the areas in
orange.
4. Outline the Louisiana Territory, in North America, in blue. This territory belonged to France.
5. Color the American colonies (and territories) east of the Mississippi River yellow. Napoleon sold the Louisiana Territory to the United States so that he would have money to expand his empire. Color in the Louisiana Territory in yellow.
6. Find England on your map and color it purple. Napoleon tried to invade Britain, but he failed. Draw a dark line between France and England.
