Close friends
By Jamie King
What’s important about close friends? Well, they’re there for parts of your life that your family don’t know about, like what happens at school, or in your social life. And of course, they just understand the kind of teenage problems we all have. But that doesn’t mean family members can’t help with these things, too. In fact, sometimes parents can bring a better understanding to a situation, and help you solve a problem. But to me, my close friends are essential!
Take, for example, my friend Darren. I’ve known him since primary school. He’s the sociable one, so I’ve made new friends through him, whereas I’m a bit quieter. But he supports me if I ever argue with other people – although he’ll also tell me if he thinks I’m wrong, and I really like that.
Then there’s my friend, Jake. We’re total opposites in many ways, and we even dress differently – I’m into fashion and shopping and stuff, but Jake’s a real sports fan and spends his Saturdays running around a football pitch. The reason we became friends was rock music, especially guitars. We’re both crazy about them! And he’s the kindest guy I know, too.
Finally, there’s my best friend, Matt. Our parents brought us together, really, because they became friends through a school event – and both our fathers are doctors. And we got on together really well straight away. The fact that our two families are close helps a lot because we all spend weekends together at the beach, so there’s always someone to go swimming with!
But it’s hard when you lose friends because their families move away – like my friend Zak. He moved away a couple of months ago when his dad got a job in another city, even though the family had enjoyed their lives here, living in the same street as us. He was really sad about leaving his friends at school – but I’m sure we’ll stay in touch, thanks to technology! We’ve arranged to meet up too, because I’m worried it might be hard to stay good friends just through online contact. But we’ll see!
