Isabel Allende was born in Lima, Peru in 1942, but she grew up in Chile. After she left school in 1958, she worked as a translator and journalist. She got married in 1962, and she had her first child, Paula, in 1963. The family moved to Europe and in 1965, they returned to Chile, and Allende had her second child, Nicolas, there that year. In 1975, she moved to Venezuela where she got a job as a TV host.
In 1982, she published her first novel THE HOUSE OF THE SPIRITS. Now, her novels are famous all over the world, and she is head of a foundation to help protect the rights of women and children. In 2003, she became a U.S. citizen, and she now lives in California.
