Components of Sand and Seawater & Separating Mixtures: Solubility and Solutions Seawater is a mixture of water, salts, sand, and other substances. Sand is not dissolved in seawater and can be separated easily. Seawater contains dissolved salts like sodium chloride, which cannot be seen by the naked eye. We use different methods to separate mixtures depending on their properties. Solubility is the ability of a substance (solute) to dissolve in a solvent (like water) to form a solution. A saturated solution is when no more solute can dissolve in the solvent at a given temperature. The solubility of substances is affected by temperature (most solids dissolve better in hot water) and pressure (gases dissolve better under high pressure). | Quizalize
