Reog Ponorogo

 The story comes from east Java. Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess and queen in a palace. She was Dewi Sanggalangit, she has polite attitude and wise. Her parents loved her so much. Everyone liked seeing her beauty. She was single, it made her parents to be worried. They had said to her to get married soon. But she denied because she had not wanted to get married at all. Day by day, her parents used to ask the same question “when will you get married?”.

Due to her parents asking her every day, she said that she would meditate for three days to get the God hint. The King and Queen persuaded the people in the palace to prepare a place and not to disturb her for three days. She meditated without eating, drinking or sleeping in a dark room. The people saved her meditation.

Why did Dewi Sanggalangit meditate for 3 days?

After three days, she left the room with a pale face and weak body. The servant brought her to her bedroom , King and Queen asked her again about the God hint to her. She said that she would get married with some requirements to the candidates of husbands, such as presenting a performance which was never before with a line of twin horses (bride and bridegroom procession) and presenting a two headed animal. King and queen were confused but they continued to announce all the places.Many kings registered but the last requirement was a difficult one, so there were two candidates. There was king Singa Barong from the Lodaya empire  and king Kelanaswanda from the Bandarangin empire. Dewi Sanggalangit was confused because King Singa Barong was famous as a cruel king and had many mistresses. Whereas King Kelanaswanda was known as homosexual. She could not choose, but the people had known the requirements of her so it could not be postponed.
