Despite the broader awareness campaigns, discrimination in society is still happening. This pandemic even made it worse, especially for the Asians living in foreign lands, like the United States.
According to the Harvard School of Public Health (2021), between March 2020 and February 2021, Stop AAPI Hate, an initiative supporting Asians and other communities, reported nearly 3,800 anti-Asian hate incidents in the U.S.
That number agrees with the statistical report mentioned in an article released by the Los Angeles Times. According to the report, hate crimes that were officially filed rose 31% in the state last year, with incidents of violence against Asians up by 107%.
It’s 2021; why is this still happening? Nobody knows. But one thing is for sure—discrimination is real. And people ought to be morally obliged to spread the word that racism, whether linked to the coronavirus or not, is just plain wrong.
