Obesity is a major global health epidemic thatincreases the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.Researchers from Flinders University, Australia, arestudying a gene related to obesity, RCAN1, which mayallow you to eat as much as you want without gainingweight. The study used a huge genetic screen inrodents to identify obesity-causing genetic candidates. When the gene RCAN1 was removed, the mice couldfeed on high fat foods for prolonged periods withoutgaining weightAccording to project leader and professor DamienKeating, blocking RCAN1 helps transform energystoring white fat into energy-burning brown fat, meaning the body burns calories even while restingand without the need for dietary restrictions or extraexercise. The international team said new drugtherapies could be developed based on the finding. Inhibiting the gene might also translate into combatingobesity and serious diseases such as diabetes."We are currently testing a series of proteintargeting drugs to see if they inhibit RCAN1 andwhether they represent potential new anti-obesity drugs," Keating said. Two-thirds of Australian adults anda quarter of children are either overweight or obese, yet left with limited effective therapeutic treatments."We have research funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council. We can potentially make a real difference in the fight again obesity,"Keating added.

Last week, my family and I went to Santolo beach because I had just passed my exam. In the early morning we went there by car and it took about five hours to reach the beach. We enjoyed the view of tea mountain during riding the car. We stayed for a moment to take many pictures of the beautiful view. The view was so beautiful and the weather was so good. We reached the beach in the afternoon and we ate our meal first before we played at the beach. I liked the wave and the sand, the wave was so huge and the sand was white. We loved our vacation at the beach.Â
Why did the writer go to Santolo beach?

We believe the Earth is about 4.6 billion years old. At percent, we are forced to look to other bodies in the solar system for hints as to what the early history of the Earth was like. Studies of our moon, Mercury, Mars, and the large satellites of Jupiter and Saturn have provided ample evidence that all these large celestial bodies had formed. This same bombardment must have affected Earth as well. The lunar record indicates that the rate of impacts decreased to its present low level about 4 billion years ago. On Earth, subsequent erosion and crustal motions have obliterated the craters that must have formed during this epoch. Scientists estimate the Earth’s age by measuring the ratios of various radioactive elements in rocks. The oldest Earth’s rocks tested thus far are about 3 1/3 billion years old. But no one knows whether these are oldest rocks on Earth. Tests on rocks from the moon and on meteorites show that these are about 4.6 billion years old. Scientists believe that this is the true age of the solar system and probably the true age of the Earth.Â
According to this passage, how do scientists estimate the age of the Earth?

Opera refers to a dramatic art form, originating in Europe, in which the emotional content is conveyed to the audience as much through music, both vocal and instrumental, as it is through the lyrics. By contrast, in musical theater an actor’s dramatic performance is primary, and the music plays a lesser role. The drama in opera is presented using the primary elements of theater such as scenery, costumes, and acting. However, the words of the opera, or libretto, are sung rather than spoken. The singers are accompanied by a musical ensemble ranging from a small instrumental ensemble to a full symphonic orchestra.Â

Dolphins are regarded as the friendliest creatures in the sea and stories of them helping drowning sailors have been common since Roman times. The more we learn about dolphins, the more we realize that their society is more complex than people previously imagined. They look after other dolphins when they are ill, care for pregnant mothers and protect the weakest in the community, as we do. Some scientists have suggested that dolphins have a language but it is much more probable that they communicate with each other without needing words. Could any of these mammals be more intelligent than man? Certainly the most common argument in favor of man’s superiority over them that we can kill them more easily than they can kill us is the least satisfactory. On the contrary, the more we discover about these remarkable creatures, the less we appear superior when we destroy them.Â
It is clear from the passage that dolphins —-.
In the 1920s, new technology allowed filmmakers to attach to each film a soundtrack of speech, music and sound effects synchronized with the action on the screen. These sound films were initially distinguished by calling them talking pictures, or talkies. The next major step in the development of cinema was the introduction of color. While the addition of sound to film revolutionized the medium, quickly driving out silent movies, color was adopted more gradually. The public was relatively indifferent to color photography as opposed to black-and-white. But as color processes improved and became as affordable as black-and-white film, more and more movies were filmed in color after the end of World War II, as the industry in America came to view color an essential to attracting audiences in its competition with television, which remained a black-and-white medium until the mid-60s. By the end of the 1960s, color had become the norm for filmmakers. 7. It is stated in the reading that —-.
